Want your web surfing to remain anonymous to the rest of the internet? Using TOR can help anonymize your applications that use TCP protocol, from instant messaging to web browsing. TOR aims to prevent eavesdropping and traffic analysis by routing your data packets randomly through several servers. The beauty is that no observer at any single point can tell where the data came from or where it's going.
The more people that use TOR the better it will become. That's because TOR needs servers to route packets through. Configuring your TOR installation to become a server not only helps improve the project, it can actually make you more anonymous.
To start using TOR:
- Download the installation.
Tor works for Linux, MacOS and Windows.
Download: http://tor.eff.org/download.html.en - Configure TOR to run applications anonymously.
This is important. As the TOR website states, for TOR to work Properly you configure your application. Simply installing TOR is not enough!
Windows Instructions
Mac Instructions
Linux Instructions - Configure TOR as a server. (Optional)
Although it's not necessary, I recommend configuring your installation as a server and help improve the project. Remember that TOR is open source and depends on volunteers for bandwidth.
